SOMATIC MOVEMENT WORKSHOP
SUNDAY 9th AUGUST, 2020
1.30pm to 5.00pm
Cairns RSL Club, Catalina Room
The Esplanade, Cairns.
INFORMATION FOR THE WORKSHOP:
Our world has changed significantly in the past few months. The awareness of COVID-19 and its long-term presence in our world is clear; it’s more than short term. We need Somatic movement more than ever; honing the skill of self-awareness can open our eyes to the suffering of others and allow us to witness, support, and break through to more balance and harmony. If ever there was a time to cultivate more peace and calm amidst all the chaos, now is it! A mindfulness practice, such as Somatics, is crucial to maintaining balance in our bodies, minds and lives.
This 3.5 hour Workshop showcases what Somatic Education is all about and how these simple, gentle and effective movement patterns can literally change your life. Thomas Hanna’s brilliant system uses targeted slow movements (called “pandiculation”) to allow the brain to recalibrate tightness in our body via the central nervous system.
A regular Somatic Movement practice is a quick, effective way to manage stress and relieve muscle pain and stiffness. Your brain tightens your muscles automatically and involuntarily in response to stress (physical and emotional, real or imagined), accidents, injuries, surgeries and repetitive actions. Chronic stress can keep our muscles tight all the time. This is called Sensory Motor Amnesia.
This workshop is not about stretching or exercise – this is about accessing the sensory-motor cortex and regaining a freedom of movement which you thought was lost, or was unavoidably just a part of getting older! This workshop includes the ‘why and how’ and also practical movement takeaways that will enhance whatever you like to do in life, be it Yoga, martial arts, all sports or simply alleviating that discomfort that comes with just living in this often stressful high-tech world!
COVID SAFE PRACTICES WILL BE IN PLACE.
