HEADS UP!
SOMATIC MOVEMENT WORKSHOP
SUNDAY 21st MARCH, 2021

1.00pm to 5.00pm

   ATHERTON - HALLORAN'S HILL

    Centenary Drive, Atherton

INFORMATION FOR THE WORKSHOP:

As bipedal mammals, we have the unique ability to turn and twist our bodies in order to scan the environment around us. With more and more time spent on devices and tech use, many hours at a time end up devoted to movement limited activities like working on a computer, driving, etc.  Over a period time we lose our ability to rotate at different speeds and to varying degrees.

This 4hr workshop will bring back the joy of rotating and twisting with a gentle building up of simple to more elaborate movements.  (Including seated, standing and floor movements - perfect for busy lives or office workers!) Free the sides of your body and liberate your breathing capacity!  Whether you are new to Somatics or already have a repertoire of somatic movements maintaining conscious control of your over-tight muscles - join us for this very gentle and safe workshop and explore somatic exercises that will keep you pain free and vital for life! No gadgets, no stretching – feel great – learn how to PANDICULATE!

A regular Somatic Movement practice is a quick, effective way to manage stress and relieve muscle pain and stiffness.  Your brain tightens your muscles automatically and involuntarily in response to stress (physical and emotional, real or imagined), accidents, injuries, surgeries and repetitive actions.  Chronic stress can keep our muscles tight all the time.  This is called Sensory Motor Amnesia.

This workshop is not about stretching or exercise – this is about accessing the sensory-motor cortex and regaining a freedom of movement which you thought was lost, or was unavoidably just a part of getting older! This workshop includes the ‘why and how’ and also practical movement takeaways that will enhance whatever you like to do in life, be it Yoga, martial arts, all sports or simply alleviating that discomfort that comes with just living in this often stressful high-tech world!  Because quite simply - that's how our world is!
